Not that anybody in the GOP is noticing the good news, but the United States economy added 280,000 new jobs in May.
This means that apart from the 1 million new jobs we've added to the economy this year we have also experienced 63 straight months of jobs growth nationwide. This helps explain why unemployment is now at 5.5% (with a small uptick since more people have started looking for work).
At the end of the day, the GOP presidential field should start congratulating President Obama for rescuing the nation from the failed policies of the previous administration. But we know that they won't do this. It would bring attention to the fact that the GOP has done absolutely nothing to help President Obama on the jobs front, while playing petty and divisive culture war games in Congress.
Acknowledging President Obama's successes would also send a signal to their supporters that the GOP's policies and platforms are rooted in failed results. And we can't let the facts get in the way of a good sales pitch, right?
