Several years ago Forbes magazine wrote about Chuck Freeney, the one time multi-billionaire who's trying to go broke by giving away his billions (at one point, $7.5 billion). At the time of the Forbes story Freeney was well on his way to reaching his goal, as he was reportedly worth only about $2 million.
Interesting tidbit. Chuck Freeney got his start from his contacts in the U.S. military and through the education he received from the GI Bill. The story behind Freeney's wealth creation and gift giving is a great read, and can be accessed here.
But, wait, the story gets better.
Five months ago it was reported in The Independent that Freeney has effectively gifted away the last of his millions to help educate children in Northern Ireland. As to his life ambition, Freeney reiterated his commitment to giving it all away, saying, "I want the last cheque I write to bounce."
