MEGACITY WORLD HERE WE COME

The number of megacities (10 million or more people) around the world has jumped from 10 in 1990 to 38 in 214. During that period the total number of people living in megacities has grown from 153 million to 453 million.

38 million people live in Tokyo, Japan.

Tokyo, Japan is at the top of the list, with 38 million inhabitants, while China has six megacities.

In the FYI category: In 2002 National Geographic profiled megacities, and predicted that there would be 21 megacities by 2015.

21 million people live in Mexico City, Mexico.
They were off by 17 cities. This tells us that our predictions about the challenges that will confront us tomorrow may be (are probably?) way off.
